No meeting on July 14th

by Maciej Żywioł - July 14th, 2010

Just a quick reminder - today, on Wednesday, July 14th the Club does not meet due to the people shortage during the holidays.

Until September we are meeting every second week, so the next meeting will take place on July 21st!

See you there!

Maciej

July 7th: Skeleton Crew

by Maciej Żywioł - July 7th, 2010

Everything was against us today - person after person appointed with role for the meeting of July 7th had some unexpected reasons not to come. We went really close to cancel the meeting, but finally decided to have it with the skeleton crew.

And it turned out to be a good decision, because it was really good - aside from the seven people we knew we will have, we had our favourite Grammarian Joasia join us, and we welcomed a new guest - Tomasz, who actually nailed the Table Topic session on his first meeting with the Club. Congratulations!

The Table Topic itself went pretty good - half of the speakers had the tasks of presenting strangest awards (ex. for the Best TV Remote Operator or Best Nuclear Power Plant Designer) to the other half, whose task was to accept the award and give a thank you speech.

In her third project (”Get to the Point”) Ania shared with us some knowledge about Feng Shui and how we should organize our houses or flats to maximize positive energy in our lives. Your truly - today’s Toastmaster - learned that way that in his house his Glory is in the toilet…

To summarize - today’s meeting show that quality is more important than quantity, but short research of people’s schedules for the upcoming two summer months show that we may experience similar staffing problems for some time now - at least until September.

This is why we decided that during Summer months we will have meetings every two weeks instead of weekly.

The next meeting, therefore, is planned for Wednesday, July 21st. The hour and place as usual.

Regards,

Maciej Żywioł

The metaphors we live by

by lord - June 22nd, 2010

Dear Toastmasters,

this week I’d like to invite you all on a journey into the world of metaphors.

While most of us seem to have a pretty good idea of what metaphors are, we are often in the dark about the fact that we use them on a daily basis more often than we think. Without them, our language would be just too plain and obvious. That’s why this week’s Table Topic Master Iwona will show us all the beauty of metaphors by inquiring about The metaphors we live by.

We also have two speeches on the menu. The first one will be delivered by Ania, who is a new Toastmasters member, yet is making great progress and is well on her way to becoming a great speaker. She will mesmerize us all talking about the Feng Shui philosophy of harmony in relation to modern architecture. This is her second project (Organize your speech) and it will be evaluated by Michał.

The second speaker needs no introduction, as he’s one of the most experienced and devoted members of the club. He also happens to be the new club president. While he himself has no apparent moustache, even though he doesn’t shave too often, Maciek will be talking about the mysterious Moustache Man. And his speech will be evaluated by Mikołaj, who is also moustacheless.

Looks like we’re in for a great meeting, so be sure not to miss it.

Wednesday 23.06.2010 18:30 AGH building B-1 room 102.

The music in your heart

by kasia.oczko - June 8th, 2010

Dear Toastmasters,

I would like to invite you for our next meeting, on which we will elaborate on our heart’s melodies.

Some time ago I’ve read that the music of the heart can be derived from electrocardiogram (ECG) data, actual digital recordings of the electrical signals of the human heart. These heart songs began as musical notes mapped from the heartbeat data. The composer can also add harmonies and rhythm to make pleasant sounding music :) I’m not sure if this will be included in our table topic questions prepared by Mikołaj… However, you can be sure that you will hear a warm-up question, which is: “What is the music in your heart?”

Tomorrow we will also hear two speeches. First one will be the Ania’s Ice Breaker, which will be evaluated by Radek. Second one will be the 4th project of Piotr, who will be evaluated by Craig. During this speech we will learn more about a very intriguing device-Amazon Kindle.

Hope to see you all there!

Your Toastmaster,

Kasia

My last word… as the President ;)

by patryk.dondziak - June 3rd, 2010

Yesterday Maciek was elected for a new President of Krakow Public Speaking Club - Congratulations Maciek !

I was a President of this Club for the last two years and I will remember it forever ! From the beginning of this yourney we’d  had one goal - become a registered Club and formal members of Toastmasters International. During those two years we had a lot of up’s and down’s but finally we achieved our goal. This would not be possible without a strong help of a few people:

Maciek - the best  in Poland Sergeant at Arms, sometimes working as hard as the the rest of Members put together as one ;).

Milenka - a strong VP Membership with a lot of testosteron, who was very active even being far away from Krakow

Radek - the most experienced Member, carrying about and supporting our Club’s finances a Treasurer

Łukasz - VP Education; we wouldn’t be able to succed without his help with renting the room on Podwale street and developing our Club’s website

Kasia - as a VP PR she promoted our club outside

Other Members - without you, our work would not make any sense.

At the end I would like to give special thanks to Michał P. who wanted to make a change two years ago and was my rival in elections for President - without him nothing would begin.

Wishing you all the best,

Patryk Dondziak

What are we good at?

by Maciej Żywioł - June 1st, 2010

Dear Toastmasters and beloved guests,

I’d tell you what I’m good at, but these messages should be kept short and there is word limit, so I just have to say that I’m really, really good at modesty ;)

But seriously, this Wednesday we’re going to talk about what are we good at, and our Table Topic Master Patryk will be leading this session.

Aside from that, we will have the opportunity to hear two speeches - one will be given by our experienced Toastmaster Craig, and the second - by our fresh member Łukasz W.

We will, hopefully, also have the results of Officers Board elections announced on the meeting, so if any of our registered members didn’t give their vote, please, do it before the meeting!

See you all the usual time (Wednesday, 6:30 PM) and the usual place (room 102 of building B-1 at AGH University of Science and Technology)!

Best regards,

Your Toastmaster of the Week,

Maciej Żywioł

Politics - one more time…

by p.leszcz - May 24th, 2010

So here it is. Politics has got into Cracow’s Toastmasters as well. I hope our Officer’s Board applicants will show us why we should choose them, not why we shouldn’t choose their opponents. Craig, our Table Topic Master has decided that because of the elections we should prepare ourselves to making choices just by talking about Politics.

Radek will deliver his 9th speech (Persuade with power) and he will be talking about “A Polish Driver”. I have no idea what does it mean, but I’m sure it will be interesting. We won’t have second speech, but we will hear short Officer’s Board applicants presentations instead.

Hope to see you soon.
